A nine-grid shouldn't need a design app

Posting a nine-grid, splitting a long image into screens, pulling a few products out of one photo: each time it's open Photoshop, drag guides, export slice by slice, rename every file. With many pictures, there goes the afternoon.

What it does

Guides: equal slices

Drag guides from the top and left rulers as in a design app, or apply presets like 3×3, 4×3 or three rows. Guides can be moved, locked or placed at an exact position, and snap to the edges and the center.

Boxes: take what you want

Switch to Boxes and drag out one or more areas of any size; they snap to guides as you move them. Good for avatars, product shots or part of a screenshot.

• Trim edges: shrink each piece a little to drop black or white borders

Generate, name, export

Click Generate and every piece is listed in order with its size. Rename any piece, download or copy it on its own, download them all, or pack them into one ZIP.

Batch: dozens at once

Import many pictures, set the slicing on one and click Apply to all. In Batch you see how many pieces will be exported and which pictures will be skipped, then pack everything into one ZIP.

Get started

1. Add to Chrome Install it from the Chrome Web Store and click the toolbar icon to open a new tab.
2. Bring in pictures Drop them in, paste, or click Choose images; many at a time is fine.
3. Mark the areas and export Apply a preset or drag a few guides, click Generate, then download or pack a ZIP. Sign in with a Xiaoxiaodong account to export.

Questions

Are my pictures uploaded?

No. Reading, cutting and exporting all happen in your browser. On the free plan, exporting sends the member site only a digest to count it, which can't be turned back into the picture.

How do 5 pictures a day count?

One picture's set of pieces counts once, even if it's cut into 9; downloading, copying or zipping the same set again that day doesn't count again. In a batch, each picture with a slicing counts as one.

Do I need an account?

Marking areas and generating pieces need none; downloading, copying and exporting need a Xiaoxiaodong account (Google or email). New accounts are unlimited for the first 7 days.

Is it the same membership as the other Xiaoxiaodong extensions?

Yes. Monthly unlocks every XXD extension; 1 year and 3 years are an XXD membership, which adds the XXD prompt site. It's the same whichever extension you buy it in.

How large can pictures be?

Up to 20 MB each, JPG, PNG or WebP; exports are PNG with no quality loss.

Which languages does it support?

13 interface languages, including Simplified and Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean. It follows the browser, and you can switch in the account center.
