Where this Panel fits — and what it solves

Ordinary line art can describe contours, but it often lacks the rhythm of print. Adding coloured lines at random can just as easily turn into messy ghosting, with colours that bear no relation to the photograph. The real challenge is to preserve structure, a tactile quality, and the tension of a limited palette at the same time.

Panel 065 builds an accurate framework with fine black lines, then selects two contrasting line colours from the source image. Slight misregistration, overlaps, and parallel strokes evoke hand-registered colour and the imperfections of old printing, turning the photograph into editorial line art that is restrained, recognisable, and genuinely tactile.

Use it when

• Complex structure must remain legible through linework: a person's pose, architectural direction, object proportions, and relationships should read at a glance.
• You want the rhythm of colour registration, not multicoloured ghosting: black lines carry the structure, while two colours from the source create warm–cool or light–dark tension.
• You like the imperfections of old printing: misregistration, broken strokes, overshoots, and correction marks should feel authentic and restrained, not like a glitch effect.
